Working in care most all of my working life was a job I truly loved. Starting as a Care Support Worker, where I developed skills to enable me to progress to a managerial level supporting carers in the community has to be one of the most rewarding experiences ever.
When I ended my previous role I was at a loose end as to what I would like to do next. Along came Companionship Services.
I met with Anja in December 2024 with her beaming smile, warm personality and dedicated approach to supporting people in the community who may have lost their ability to go out alone, lost their most precious loved one or just wanted someone to be there for them.
In January 2025 I became one of Anja’s team members, and since then have been on an a totally different journey.
Working alongside one of the most dedicated companies speaks for itself, each one of us have something to contribute, you only have to look at Anja’s leadership and management skills, Debs for her professional newsletters and PR posters and advertising and the devotion of the companions who make me smile.
To see a smile on the face of the client as they open their front door to greet me is very rewarding. Listening to their life stories and goals for the future is really inspiring. Some of my clients only want a chat or to be taken to an appointment, some want to go shopping or visit a local garden centre.
Together we have completed activities put together lily pads for fish ponds, crocheted Jack-O- Lanterns and shared book reviews.
I am thrilled that supporting and engaging with clients in our community through Companionship Services is making a difference to them. To walk along the street arm in arm, being silly and enjoying life is just what their doctor ordered. Kindness and compassion, no matter how small, is ever wasted, we give it unconditionally.
Another reason I joined Companionship services, I believe I am working for a company with values that I can relate to and in areas that interest me. Anja appreciates our efforts and offers encouragement to us. She treats her team with respect and doesn’t treat us as numbers.
I can see a clear path ahead for Anja to progress with her company and I hope more people looking for a new or continued direction in Companionship research our wonderful website.
